Not a Potter or New to Pottery?

I have added a section for those thinking of taking pottery lessons. Includes a studio tour of Mohawk College. Guild members might want to direct anyone thinking about pottery lessons to these pages.

Pottery Supply House Tour

Like most local potters I have made regular visits down to the store, but have not been into the rest of the building, until this spring that is. As part of our Mohawk course we were given a tour of the warehouse and manufacturing areas. Now you too can see what is behind the counter.

Website Changes

I've added sections on Mohawk College and Pottery Supply House. I've also deleted the Gallery because it hasn't been up dated in over three years. With changes in membership and potter's work the information has become dated and inaccurate. If there is sufficient interest a new Gallery could be created.

October Raku

At our last executive meeting we decided to have a Guild Raku. October 25 is a Saturday.  So weather permitting, bring 3 - 4 bisqued pieces of a reasonable size. It will be held the same place as our last one, at 7 Grand River Ave, Judy Deans'. Time 9 am until pots are all fired. Please wear long cotton clothing, closed toed shoes, hair tied back, and a good attitude for a day of fun.  Rain date will be Oct 26, same time, same place etc.

Empty Bowls 2008

A bowl is a bowl is a bowl, but when is a bowl not a bowl?  When it is empty.  Again we are trying to fill the empty bowls of people in need.

Are you all geared up to meet this years challenge.  Hopefully we can match last years whopping 479 bowls.  I feel as though we out did other guilds for the amount of bowls sold with our 40 potters that participated.  You do not have to be in the sale to donate to this very worthy bowl project.  So let us all step up to the plate and make it a home run.

2007 Empty Bowls Sale Raises $9580 for the Brantford Food Bank

Charities are popular with potters. This year the Brantford Potter’s Guild hosted an “Empty Bowls” event at our Fall Sale. In addition to creating their own pots each potter contributed bowls to this effort. Guild potters made 479 bowls and were thrilled to watch as they all sold by early Saturday afternoon.

This donation will allow the Brantford Food Bank to purchase $76,640 worth of food. We were told that this is the largest single cash donation in the Food Bank's history. Well done guild potters! The guild is already planning for another Empty Bowls event in 2008. Pictures and Expositor article.

For some potters this was their first sale (see article describing a first sale) part 1, part 2, and they came with fixed feelings of excitement and dread.
